Daniel was born in Berkeley, CA, and grew up in the east bay (Union City, CA). Eighteen years later he returned to Berkeley, where he majored in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering (B.S. 2015). At Berkeley, he worked in the labs of Profs. Thomas Maimone and Clayton Radke, where he worked on the total synthesis of complex natural products and hydrogel synthesis for contact-lens and drug-delivery applications, respectively. Daniel completed his Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering (Ph.D. 2020) at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where he worked with Prof. David Flaherty on understanding how the interactions between surface intermediates, confined solvent, and extended surfaces affect liquid-phase oxidation catalysis. Daniel is now a postdoc with Prof. Yogesh Surendranath at MIT where he is studying electrochemical interfaces to further explore how molecules respond to (electro)chemical stimuli in various environments.
